Fragment With Factory Stamp (England), ca. 1830

This is a Fragment with factory stamp. It was company: Miles & Edwards. It is dated ca. 1830 and we acquired it in 1996. Its medium is cotton and its technique is block printed on plain weave foundation; block registration marks visible. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was bequest of Elinor Merrell. It is credited Bequest of Elinor Merrell.

Its dimensions are

Warp x Weft: 28.5 x 65 cm (11 1/4 x 25 9/16 in.)

It is inscribed

"No 134 Oxford St MILES & EDWARDS' with crown within frame in black. On either side of this mark is a block printed anthemion frieze in red. The beginning of a Patent mark in black is just visible. "H.E" in yellow (for printer of yellow). Handwritten in ink (faded) between pattern and mark "25 1/2 yds".
