Thebes Stool
This is a stool. It was retailed by Liberty & Company. It is dated ca. 1884 and we acquired it in 1993. Its medium is mahogany, leather. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Sir Arthur Lasenby Liberty set shop in /london 1875. "The East India House" began by selling unusual objects from Asia, but soon turned its attention to the products of local arts and crafts workshops. W. E. Godwin, C. F. A. Voysey, and Christopher Dresser designs were sold along with Eastern decorative arts.(Toward Modern Design, 1993).
It is credited Museum purchase from Decorative Arts Association Acquisitions Fund, in memory of Dona Guimaraes.
