Sunny Suzy Child's Iron
This is a Child's iron. It was manufactured by Wolverine Supply & Mfg. Co.. It is dated ca. 1955 and we acquired it in 1993. Its medium is cast metal, painted metal and wood, fabric (cord). It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Gender roles were pervasive in the 1950s, even reaching children through their toys. In the 1920s, the Wolverine Supply and Manufacturing Company produced the popular “Sunny Andy” and “Sunny Suzy” toy lines, for boys and girls, respectively, expanding the latter in the 1950s to include a “Rite Hite” kitchen set so that young girls could cook like their mothers did. The set featured a Frigidaire range and refrigerator, miniature Bissel vacuum cleaner, and an ironing set, among other items.
