Sidewall, The Golden Tiffany
This is a sidewall. It was manufactured by Sears, Roebuck and Co.. It is dated 1914 and we acquired it in 1992. Its medium is machine printed on embossed paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.
This sidewall and accompanying frieze (1992-38-2) are found in a 1914 Sears & Roebuck sample book held in our collection. The sidewall sold for 48 cents a double roll. The title of the design, The Golden Tiffany, refers to the mottled ground on which the design was printed, an effect produced by blending metallic pigments and mica-based color. Sears repeated the design but printed it on an engraved ground, called it The Morocco, and sold it for 50 cents a double roll—the most expensive paper in the book.
It is credited Museum purchase from Sarah Cooper-Hewitt Fund.
Its dimensions are
H x W: 343 x 50 cm (11 ft. 3 1/16 in. x 19 11/16 in.)
