Lincoln Drape Goblet Goblet
This is a Goblet. It is dated mid-19th century and we acquired it in 1992. Its medium is glass. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
During the nineteenth century, America was a leading producer and exporter of pressed glass, a technique in which the moldten glass is poured into metal forms to produce relief-decorated vessels without additional handwork. In 1834 at the Boston and Sandwich factory between sixy and seventy presses were in operation. Pressing made possible unlimited production of elabroate patterns; and by replacing human labor and skill, it lowered the price of glass. (Toward Modern Design, 1993).
