Sample Plate Plate

This is a plate. It is dated ca. 1875 and we acquired it in 1990. Its medium is hard paste porcelain, metal-oxide pigment, gold. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Porcelain factories created sample plates to display the range of decorative motifs available to their customers. Patterns based on Indian, Islamic, and Persian motifs appear on both front and back of this imposing piece. (Design for Life, 1997-98).

It is credited Museum purchase from Decorative Arts Association Acquisition Fund.
