Vase (One of a Pair) Vase
This is a vase. It was decorated by Aimé-Joseph Goddé and manufactured by Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory and modeled by Jules-Constant-Jean-Baptiste Peyre. It is dated ca. 1868 and we acquired it in 1988. Its medium is hard paste porcelain, vitreous enamel, gold, metal. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Sèvres showed this vase form at their display in the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1855. Named after missionary R. P. Ly, who published influential studies on Chinese porcelain, the vase was produced in a range of patterns, including this rich vegetal motif against a brilliant blue background.
It is credited Museum purchase from Decorative Arts Association Acquisition Fund.
