Medicis Vase

This is a vase. It was made by Cristalleries de Saint-Louis. It is dated ca. 1840 and we acquired it in 1988. Its medium is pressed glass. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

While in America pressed glass was produced since the 1820's in France, Sain-Louis was the first crystal glass works to adopt this technique in the 1830's. The new technique was appreciated for making possible the creation of delicate moldings and clear ribbing, which were not obtainable in the blowing process. (Toward Modern Design, 1993)

This object was donated by Cristalleries de Saint-Louis. It is credited Gift of Cristalleries de Saint-Louis.

Its dimensions are

H x diam.: 17.5 x 14 cm (6 7/8 x 5 1/2 in.)
