Plate, from the "Eden" Service (One of Sixteen) Plate

This is a plate. It was gilded by L. and Louis-François L'Écot and decorated by F B and enameled by F B and manufactured by Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory and painted by François-Marie Barrat (oncle). It is dated 1787 and we acquired it in 1986. Its medium is soft paste porcelain, vitreous enamel, gold. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Extensive porcelain dinner services of matching patterns were first produced at the Meissen porcelain factory of Saxony in the early eighteenth century. In the second half of the eighteenth century. In the second half of the eighteenth century, the royal Sevres factory in France took the lead in the product of opulent and costly tablewares. ( Tools for the Table, 1993).

This object was donated by Mrs. John Jay Ide. It is credited The John Jay Ide Collection.
