This is a sugar bowl. It is dated ca. 1838 and we acquired it in 1980. Its medium is silver, gold. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Arthur Ross. It is credited Gift of Arthur Ross.

Its dimensions are

On the underside of bowl: [1] A cricket within a lozenge, impressed (countermark, French, 1819-1838) On the base edge of bowl: [1] “G”, star, “A”, over “B” within a lozenge, impressed (maker’s mark) [2] Cérès head in circle, impressed (guarantee mark, French, 1819–1838) [3] Giraffe’s head, impressed (guarantee mark, 1838) Below the rim of the bowl: [1] Michelangelo head facing right with “1” in an octagon, impressed (standard mark, French, 1819–1838). [2] Giraffe’s head, impressed (guarantee mark, 1838) On the underside of lid: [1] Michelangelo head facing right with “1” in an octagon, impressed (standard mark, French, 1819–1838).
