Altar Frontal (Germany)

This is a Altar frontal. It is dated early–mid-19th century and we acquired it in 1947. Its medium is cotton, linen, silk, metallic thread and its technique is appliqué with satin, couching and chain stitch embroidery on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Mrs. DeWitt Clinton Cohen. It is credited Museum purchase through gift of Norvin Hewitt Green.
