Dyer's Record Book (USA)
This is a Dyer's record book. It was manufactured by Old Pacific Print Works. It is dated 1871 and we acquired it in 1945. Its medium is cardboard, paper, printed wool samples and its technique is printed on plain weave and 2/2 twill. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Inspired by the paisley shawls of Kashmir and other Eastern textiles, designers in the 1860s and 1870s mixed and matched a variety of perceived exotic motifs in their roller-printed textiles. Even the characteristic jagged outlines of Kashmiri hand-woven twills were successfully translated into printed fabrics.
