Edging (Italy), early 17th century

This is a Edging. It is dated early 17th century and we acquired it in 1943. Its medium is linen and its technique is needle lace, reticella style. It is a part of the Textiles department.

A five-element flat braid, a support for looping, forms the straight edge and the basic shape of each rounded tab.

This object was bequest of Richard Cranch Greenleaf (American, 1887–1961). It is credited Gift of Marian Hague?.
