Sidewall, Persian

This is a sidewall. It was made by Morris & Co.. It is dated 1925 and we acquired it in 1941. Its medium is block printed on paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.

This paper focuses on the exotic pomegranate plant, which is native to Persia (present-day Iran). The densely woven pattern containing the pomegranate fruit, flower, and foliage is characteristic of Morris & Co. wallpapers. Depicting elements of the plant’s life cycle is common in floral wallpapers and relates to botanical illustration.

This object was donated by Robert W. Friedel. It is credited Gift of Robert W. Friedel.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D (a): 56.8 x 57.3 cm (22 3/8 x 22 9/16 in.)
