Tapa Cloth (Samoa)

This is a Tapa cloth. It is dated 1800–1850 and we acquired it in 1941. Its medium is mulberry tree bark (broussonetia papyrifera); tapa and its technique is beaten, printed and painted. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Elisabeth Aschehoug. It is credited Gift of Elisabeth Aschehoug.
