Commemorative Bookmark, President Abraham Lincoln
This is a Commemorative bookmark. It was manufactured by Warner Company. It is dated ca. 1920 and we acquired it in 1941. Its medium is silk and its technique is discontinuous supplementary wefts in a predominantly warp-faced plain weave foundation. It is a part of the Textiles department.
The identities of public figures, such as Abraham Lincoln, were transformed by mass-produced memorabilia and portraiture. They fed the intense demand among the general public, whose imagination was stoked by questions of whether Lincoln was handsome; demand for his image reached a peak after his assassination.
