Drawing, Textile Design: Rectangular and Triangular Shapes in Perspective
This is a Drawing. It is dated ca. 1928 and we acquired it in 1971. Its medium is black chalk on cream tracing paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Reminiscent of skyscrapers and the concentric angles associated with Art Deco, Max Forrer’s textile design is both abstract and evocative. The drawing is signed with Forrer’s name and stamped with his studio address in Paris. A second stamp indicates the manufacturer: The Orinoka Mills, whose showroom at 183 Madison Avenue, New York, was located in the heart of the "Silk District" in a building that featured Art Deco ironwork by Edgar Brandt.
It is credited Gift of Orinoka Mills.
