The first Earth Day took place on April 22, 1970, and this timely design by Milton Glaser was the prolific graphic designer's first environmental poster. The first Earth Day brought together thousands of Americans from different political parties across the country to demonstrate for a healthy and sustainable environment and led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency.
