Kul Oba Brooch Brooch
This is a Brooch. It was made by Fortunato Pio Castellani & Sons. It is dated ca. 1875 and we acquired it in 1969. Its medium is gold. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
In the late nineteenth century, Italian brothers Augusto and Alessandro Castellani took inspiration from their extensive collection of ancient Greek and Etruscan aritfacst to produce gold jewelry of exquisite quality. This hand-wrought gold necklace and brooch are prime examples of the Italian archaeological jewelry that became the height of fashion among the British aristocracy during the period.
