Printing Block (probably India), 19th century
This is a Printing block. It is dated 19th century and we acquired it in 1968. Its medium is wood and its technique is wood carved in relief. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Jaipur, India, was one of the leading centers for producing block-printed cotton fabrics. After designs were worked out on paper, the paper would be pasted onto a wooden block to guide the carver.
