Decorative Panel, Le Soir [The Evening]
This is a Decorative panel. It is dated ca. 1855 and we acquired it in 1968. Its medium is block-printed paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.
This landscape view of the Middle East affords the view of domes, minarets, palm trees, three robed figures and a camel, bathed in the light of the sunset hours. It is viewed through an elaborate gilded frame, and is one medallion from the set of "Les quatres heures du jour" (The Four Times of the Day) and would have been installed as a group with three identical frames containing similar views seen at different times of the day. The frame bears the title: "Le Soir" and represents an evening scene. The other three times of the day include morning, noon and the night.
It is credited Gift of Mrs. Germaine Little.
Its dimensions are
90.5 x 54 cm (35 5/8 x 21 1/4 in.)
