Vase (USA)
This is a vase. It was made by Louis Comfort Tiffany. It is dated ca. 1900 and we acquired it in 1966. Its medium is mold-blown favrile glass. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Although Favrile glass specifically referred to Tiffany’s trademarked iridescent material, he later referred to all of his glass, enamel, and pottery as such, as the term Favrile is derived from the French word for handmade. This low-bodied vase, with slight bombe form and flared lip, is a glossy, vibrant turquoise, a hue achieved by mixing specific amounts of chemicals in the glass batch.
