Pewter-Mounted Tankard Tankard

This is a tankard. It was manufactured by R. Broadhead & Company. It is dated late 19th century and we acquired it in 1960. Its medium is porcelain, vitreous enamel, gold; pewter. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D: 13.5 × 13 × 10 cm (5 5/16 × 5 1/8 × 3 15/16 in.)

It has the following markings

Underside of porcelain pitcher: [1] "IV", "7", "C", "H", "11", and "Rd" (clockwise, from top to center) within diamond-shaped raised mark (English Registry mark) [2] raised "36" (beneath diamond-shaped mark) [3] "J / 4034", painted in black overglaze (probably form or pattern number) Edge of pewter lid: [1] "THOMPSON'S / PATENT" and "R. BROADHEAD & COMPANY / SHEFFIELD", stamped into base of pewter lever
