Bracelet (Italy)

This is a Bracelet. It was carved by Filippo Tignani. It is dated 1867 and we acquired it in 1959. Its medium is gold, stone. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Carved cameos were popular in ancient roman times, again in the Renaissance period, and throught the whole nineteenth century. This cameo on this bracelet is a portrait of Frederick Chauncey, father of the donor. The cameo was made to be removeable from its bracelet mount, so that it could also be worn as a brooch or pendant. (Jewelry 1989-90)

This object was donated by Emily H. Chauncey. It is credited Bequest of Emily H. Chauncey.
