Clasp Clasp

This is a clasp. It is dated early 19th century and we acquired it in 1957. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Estate of Mrs. Lathrop Colgate Harper.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D (clasp closed): 18.5 × 21.3 × 2.5 cm (7 5/16 in. × 8 3/8 in. × 1 in.) H x W x D (clasp open): 29.5 × 21.3 × 1.6 cm (11 5/8 × 8 3/8 × 5/8 in.)

It has the following markings

On exterior face, at center bottom: [1] "DG" over "92", in rectangle, stamped (maker's mark) [2] lion over "2", stamped (standard mark, .833 purity silver.) On inner frame bar, at center bottom: [1] "DG" over "92", in rectangle, stamped (maker's mark) On exterior reverse, under base of suspension ring: [1] Minerva head, stamped (duty mark) On exterior reverse, at center bottom: [1] "DG" over "92", in rectangle, stamped (maker's mark)
