Band (Italy), early 17th century

This is a Band. It is dated early 17th century and we acquired it in 1957. Its medium is linen and its technique is grid of laid cords with needle lace, reticella style. It is a part of the Textiles department.

The 1 inch square grid was created by five parallel four-element flat braids crossed by cords covered with figure-eight interlacing.

This object was donated by Salisbury Day. It is credited Gift of Salisbury Day from the Estate of Katharine Day.
