Bowl Bowl

This is a bowl. It was manufactured by Meriden Silver Plate Company and Meriden Brittania Company. It is dated ca. 1898 and we acquired it in 1957. Its medium is silver plated, britannia metal. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

It is credited Gift of Anonymous Donor.

Its dimensions are

H x diam.: 9.5 × 24.7 cm (3 3/4 × 9 3/4 in.)

It has the following markings

On underside base, at center: [1] “MADE AND/GUARANTEED BY” over “MERIDEN/B. COMPANY” encircling image of balance scale into shield, impressed (manufacturer’s mark, Meriden Britannia Company) [2] “80/U.S.A”, impressed (model number)

It is inscribed

On side, within one cartouche: interlaced initials "JDB", engraved
