Sample Book (England)

This is a Sample book. It is dated ca. 1834 and we acquired it in 1954. Its medium is cardboard, paper, cotton and its technique is block and roller printed on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.


An English sample book from 1834 effectively illustrates the two types of printing processes used in the production of these engaging cotton textiles.

It is credited Museum purchase from Pauline Riggs Noyes Fund.

It is inscribed

On inside cover and on fly leaf: "Ship Plymouth Apl. 1 1834." In faint pencil on fly leaf: "J. F and Co.," and below "181."
