Crewel Wool Fragment (France), ca. 1740

This is a Crewel wool fragment. It is dated ca. 1740 and we acquired it in 1942. Its medium is wool on cotton and its technique is stem and satin embroidery; french knots and several varieties of cross-stitches on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.
