Drawing, Study of Squash or Pumpkin Plants, early 20th century
This is a Drawing. It was designed by Sophia L. Crownfield. It is dated early 20th century and we acquired it in 1937. Its medium is brush and watercolor, graphite on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Decorated wallpaper borders with plants, vines, and woodland scenes were popular during the Arts and Crafts period of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The horizontal arrangement of this study suggests a preparatory design for a frieze or border wallpaper, probably for M. H. Birge & Sons, Company.
