Lantern Slide, Rising Sun

This is a Lantern slide. It is dated ca. 1780 and we acquired it in 1937. Its medium is cut paper on wood frame. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

It is credited Museum purchase through gift of Mary Hearn Greims and George A. Hearn and from the Misses Hewitt Fund.

It is inscribed

Inscribed on label, verso: Observe now the rising sun and see its splendor -- it always rises and sends out its heat. When it's clear, although you stare at the Sun it does not hurt.
