Sugar Tongs Sugar Tongs

This is a sugar tongs. It was made by Andrew Demilt. It is dated ca. 1805 and we acquired it in 1931. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Sarah Cooper Hewitt. It is credited Gift of Sarah Cooper Hewitt.

On interior of thong arm: [1] “DEMILT”, impressed (maker’s mark)

Inscribed on bowed end of thongs: [1] "HMJ" in script, incised
