Box
This is a Box. It is dated late 19th century and we acquired it in 1926. Its medium is horn with inlaid gold, silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Horn was boiled, split, sawn and flattened to make the translucent panels that were joined to form this box. Once shaped, the lid was ornamented with inlaid gold and silver to form a decorative band and dot pattern surrounding a vase of flowers in the center.
