This is a ice cream pail. It was manufactured by Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory and painted by Jean-Baptiste-Etienne-Nicolas. It is dated pail ca. 1772; cover possibly later and we acquired it in 1926. Its medium is soft paste porcelain, vitreous enamel, gold. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was bequest of Mrs. John Innes Kane. It is credited Bequest of Mrs. John Innes Kane.

Its dimensions are

a) H x diam.: 16.5 × 2.3 cm (6 1/2 × 7/8 in.) b) H x diam.: 4.3 × 20.1 cm (1 11/16 × 7 15/16 in.)

It has the following markings

Underside: [1] interlaced LLs enclosing "T", painted in blue overglaze (manufactory mark) [2] a laurel branch, painted in blue overglaze (painter's mark)
