Bound Print, Ornamental Vase Design
This is a Bound print. It was designed by François Boucher and print maker: A. Bouchet and published by Gabriel Huquier. It is dated ca. 1738 and we acquired it in 1920. Its medium is etching in red ink on white laid paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Boucher’s bronze mount design for an antique jasper ewer incorporates the curvilinear movement and pastoral motifs characteristic of rococo style. A young boy reclines on rocks, shells, and flowers on the lid, a goat with a long tail decorates the handle, and acanthus and scroll motifs adorn the foot.
