Vase (Iran)
This is a vase. It is dated 17th–18th century and we acquired it in 1919. Its medium is enameled glass. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
This blown glass vase was made in the 17th or 18th century in Iran. It has a delicate applied glass rope ornament at the base of the neck, and is intricately decorated with gold enamel in a diamond and star pattern. This classically-inspired decanter shape was common in Islamic glass at the time. However, this object was likely a luxury item, given the elaborate enameling.
