Mug Mug

This is a Mug. It is dated 1783 and we acquired it in 1918. Its medium is silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Mrs. James O. Green. It is credited Gift of Mrs. James O. Green.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D: 6.8 × 7.9 × 5.3 cm (2 11/16 × 3 1/8 × 2 1/16 in.)

It has the following markings

On side of mug: [1] "A•R", impressed (maker's mark) [2] Leopard's head with crown, impressed (town mark, London, 1478–1822) [3] "h" in reverse, impressed (date mark, 1783) [4] Lion passant, impressed (standard mark, British) [5] Head of King George III, impressed (duty mark, 1786–1821)* *It is possible the duty mark was added at a later date.

It is inscribed

Inscribed on side of mug: [1] "J E B", incised (monogram)
