Drawing, Design for Two Friezes

This is a Drawing. It was designed by Piat Joseph Sauvage. It is dated 1785-1790 and we acquired it in 1911. Its medium is pen and ink, brush and sepia washes. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

This object was donated by Advisory Council. It is credited Purchased for the Museum by the Advisory Council.

It is inscribed

Top, a scale: "Echelle B 4 toises." Another scale: "Echelle double de L echelle B 2 toises." Written over the design: "fries B dans toute sa longeur voir L'echelle B" beside "n. 11ne." Underneath: a scale: "i toile B". Written, as before: "M. Mitior D'ure autre frise Dont S'echelle est de Double grandeur que l'echelle B" and "n. 12me".
