Drawing, Design for a Candelabrum
This is a Drawing. It is dated 1791 and we acquired it in 1908. Its medium is pen and ink, brush and wash, on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
Endowed with a mix of classical motifs such as swags and caryatids, this candelabrum shows the more lavish style of ornamentation of lighting fixtures that dominated in the Louis XVI era, before Napoleon.
