Clock (USA)

This is a clock. It was manufactured by National Watch Company. It is dated ca. 1868 and we acquired it in 1908. Its medium is silver stand, dial of enamel on copper. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

In August of 1864 Benjamin W. Raymond, mayor of Chicago, purchased an abandoned farm thirty miles north of Chicago and built a watch factory. After a year of designing and building the lathes and machinery to their satisfaction, a team of watchmakers and mechanical engineers produced their first pocket watch movement, named for mayor "B.W. Raymond," as this example is marked.

This object was bequest of Katherine Strong Welman. It is credited Bequest of Katherine Strong Welman.
