Textile, Waterfall
This is a Textile. It was designed by Akira Minagawa and made for minä perhonen. It is dated 2013 and we acquired it in 2018. Its medium is 100% wool and its technique is printed on twill weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Although best known as a fashion designer, Akira Minagawa’s brand minä perhonen is noted for its poetic textiles, all designed by Minagawa himself. Working closely with textile producers in Japan and around the world, he has explored a diversity of different techniques, from jacquard and velvet weaving to machine embroidery to screen printing. This printed design was made using eight screens and a carefully considered palette of translucent inks which are layered to create additional blended colors. The juxtaposed “pure” colors create the illusion of light shining through cascading water.
