Textile, Fogland
This is a Textile. It was designed by Akira Minagawa and made for minä perhonen. It is dated 2006 and we acquired it in 2018. Its medium is foundation 60% cotton, 40% rayon; yellow pile 100% cotton; gray pile 100% rayon and its technique is jacquard weave with supplementary warp pile (velvet). It is a part of the Textiles department.
Akira Minagawa’s clothing brand, minä perhonen, is noted for its delicate, poetic fabrics, which are designed by Minagawa himself. Many of the fabrics are manufactured in Japan, and the designer collaborates closely with textile producers to showcase exquisite craftsmanship. Minagawa has been designing patterned velvets since 2007. Fogland, his first velvet design, is an atmospheric rendering of scattered birds perched in bare golden trees, surrounded by a silvery fog rendered in shiny rayon yarn. The design was used for both apparel and interiors.
