AB 21/s Travel Alarm Clock
This is a Travel Alarm Clock. It was designed by Dieter Rams and Dietrich Lubs and manufactured by Braun AG. It is dated 1978 and we acquired it in 2017. Its medium is molded plastic, mechanical parts. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Alarm clocks, along with electric clocks and clock radios, constituted a major Braun product division, headed up by Dietrich Lubs, often working in collaboration with Dieter Rams. All Braun alarm clocks had yellow second hands and an identical alarm tone. This clock face uses Akzidenz Grotesk, an easy-to-read sans serif font, which was a forerunner of Helvetica. Braun’s line of alarm clocks adhered to a distinct program: the second hand was always yellow and the sound of the alarm was identical for every model.
