Poster, Phoenix with Amazing Baby
This is a Poster. It was designed by Geoff McFetridge and from the office of Solitary Arts. It is dated 2009 and we acquired it in 2017. Its medium is offset lithograph on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
This poster by Geoff McFetridge advertised a free concert featuring the bands Phoenix and Amazing Baby performing on June 25, 2009 at The Record Bar in Kansas City, Missouri. As a “MySpace Secret Show,” knowledge of the free concert was made available to MySpace users through a series of blog posts and bulletins only a few days before the event, so McFetridge’s design would have been primarily distributed in a digital format and therefore needed to captivate interest quickly. His bold use of color and line creates a simple and unreal design—on a bright yellow ground, the keys of a piano seep downwards to create a serpentine shape. McFetridge further indicates the physical impact of the swirling music by depicting the piano bench at the lower left, forced almost completely out of the frame by the mass of music moving above it.
