Textile

This is a Textile. It is dated 1970–1979 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is cotton and its technique is printed. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This textile shares the large-scale, swirling patterns of the psychedelic Sixties with the more subdued palette of the 1970s. It is printed on a heavy cotton sateen suitable for draperies. Although the designer of the piece is unknown, it represents a kind of psychedelia for the masses—or at least for those not bold enough to adopt a vivid color scheme for their homes.

This object was donated by American Textile History Museum. It is credited American Textile History Museum Collection, gift of Violet Menzia.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 194.9 × 134.6 cm (76 3/4 × 53 in.)
