Textile
This is a Textile. It was produced by Associated American Artists. It is dated 1957 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is cotton and its technique is printed. It is a part of the Textiles department.
The last known textiles produced in collaboration with Associated American Artists are not attributed to individual artists, but are identified in the selvedge as “A Soap ‘n’ Water design created by Associated American Artists.” The fabrics are dated 1957. (1) It is unlikely that they were produced by Lowenstein; possible manufacturers include Crown Fabrics, Oppenheim Collins, and Pilgrim Mills. Six of these designs, more traditional in terms of imagery, are presented for consideration. In this design, orderly rows of turquoise polka-dots form stripes across a solid black ground.
