Textile, Futuriste
This is a Textile. It was designed by Lamartine Le Goullon and produced by Associated American Artists. It is dated 1953 and we acquired it in 2017. Its medium is cotton and its technique is printed. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Futuriste is the work of Lamartine Le Goullon, the illustrator responsible for the branding and interiors of two famed San Francisco jazz clubs. According to Karen J. Herbaugh, the design is an example of the new 1950s fabrics that incorporated “the science-inspired imagery of atomic, molecular, and crystalline forms.” (1) In this colorway, neon pink, yellow, and aqua shapes stand out against a two-toned gray ground.
Futuriste is part of the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art’s traveling exhibition, “Art for Every Home: Associated American Artists, 1934-2000.”
