This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Museum of the City of New York as part of The Jazz Age: American Style in the 1920s.
Led by Chanel, menswear influences infiltrated women’s fashion and accessory designs in new ways in the 1920s. The black-and-white two-tone patterning of these French pumps derives from the men’s brogue, or spectator shoe, originally designed for use while playing cricket.
